I’ve heard people describe fear as – False Evidence Appearing Real.
We make skewed perceptions based off of our past experience and project those fears onto the future.
Our fears are USUALLY not based in reality.
Fears can come from not being present and being lost in our fabricated world of thoughts.
In the documentary, the Last Dance, it discusses why Michael Jordan is so great. And it’s mentioned that he has an unbelievable ability to be present.
“His gift was not that he could jump high, run fast, shoot a basketball. His gift was that he was completely present, and that was the separator.” – Mark Vancil.
Jordan has been quoted as saying, “Why would I think about missing a shot I haven’t taken?”
He didn’t worry about what he couldn’t control.
But, we are not all Michael Jordan. So, if you experience fear…
With fear there can be courage.
Courage is the ability to act when it’s the last thing that you want to do.
Courage is doing the right thing when it’s the hard thing.
Courage is putting yourself out there even if there is the possibility that you might fall on your face.
If you can’t find your confidence and are stuck in your fears, find your courage.
And remember, you have to show up and suck, before you show up and shine. No one is a total pro right away. It takes time. Be easy on yourself.
See you on your mat.
